Training Intelligent Pigging

DESCRIPTION

Training Intelligent Pigging provides a comprehensive technical overview of advanced Inline Inspection (ILI) technologies used to evaluate and ensure structural pipeline integrity. Participants will master the fundamental operational procedures, data interpretation methods, and damage assessment standards (including ASME B31G and RSTRENG) required for Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), and EMAT smart pigs. Designed for pipeline, integrity, and operations engineers, this training equips technical teams to plan successful inspection runs, detect subsurface metal loss or mechanical defects early, and maintain safe, compliant pipeline transportation systems.

OBJECTIVES

This course is designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to all aspects of utility and inspection pigging.  The aim of the training program is to help individuals, from a variety of backgrounds, to become familiar with and understand pipeline pigging and its applications.

OUTLINE COURSE

  • Why Pig Pipelines
  • On-Line Inspection Techniques: Available Technology
  • Pipeline Design for Pigging
  • Pre-Inspection-Survey Activities for Magnetic-Flux Intelligent Pigs
  • Pigging And Inspection of Flexible Pipes
  • 10 Years of Intelligent Pigging: An Operator’s View
  • The History and Application of Foam Pigs
  • Pigging and Chemical Treatment of Pipelines
  • Specialist Pigging Techniques
  • The Assessment of Pipeline Defects Detected During Pigging Operations

RECOMMENDED AUDIENCE

  • Pipeline Integrity Engineers: Specialists responsible for designing pipeline inspection programs, analyzing Inline Inspection (ILI) data, and calculating Remaining Strength of Corroded Pipe (RSTRENG / ASME B31G).

  • Pipeline Operations & Maintenance Engineers: Technical staff supervising pipeline pigging operations, selecting pig launcher/receiver traps, and troubleshooting pig stuck or bypass scenarios.

  • Asset Integrity & Reliability Managers: Leaders establishing risk-based inspection (RBI) strategies, managing corrosion control programs, and ensuring regulatory compliance for onshore and offshore pipeline networks.

  • NDT & Inspection Technicians: Quality control personnel seeking in-depth knowledge of advanced non-destructive testing technologies utilized in smart pigs (MFL, UT, EMAT, Geo-pig/Caliper).

  • Corrosion & Materials Engineers: Engineers analyzing pipeline degradation mechanisms (pitting, stress corrosion cracking, erosion, metal loss) to recommend mitigation and chemical treatment solutions.

  • Field Superintendents & Pipeline Supervisors: Field personnel responsible for pre-pigging cleaning runs, gauge pigging, and executing intelligent pigging field operations safely.
